
Dr. Nathan Urquhart (MD MSc FRCS C Dip Sports Medicine NSMB) is an Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy. He is an Associate Professor at Dalhousie University and a part of the Dalhousie University Sports Medicine Fellowship team. Prior to medical school, Dr. Urquhart completed a Masters of Science in Exercise Sciences with a focus in Aerospace Physiology and a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. In 2014, he was one of two Canadian-French-Belgian-Swiss Travelling Fellows. Dr. Urquhart is currently a board member for the Canadian Academy of Sports and Exercise Medicine.
Dr. Urquhart’s clinical interests are Sports Medicine and Arthroscopic management for knee, shoulder, and hip pathologies. In the knee this includes management of knee ACL injuries/reconstruction, multi-ligament injury, meniscus tears (partial menisectomy/repair/transplant), osteochondral defects, patella instability (MPFL tear, trochlear dysplasia, malalignment), and joint preservation osteotomies. In the hip, this includes labrum repair and correction of bony deformity. In the shoulder, he focuses on rotator cuff repair, rotator cuff augmentation, labrum repair, and bone augmentation for instability.
Dr. Urquhart works with athletes who participate in local, national and international events. Locally, he collaborates with U Sport, Halifax Wanderers, Halifax Tides, Halifax Thunderbirds, and Halifax Mooseheads. Nationally, Dr. Urquhart has worked with numerous associations, including, Alpine Canada, Gymnastics Canada, Hockey Canada, Skate Canada, Tennis Canada, and Rugby Canada, and the Pan Am Games.
